Beat the Heat this Memorial Day with these Refreshing Summer Spritzers

We love Memorial Day Weekend. It’s the ‘unofficial’ start to the Summer. No matter what your plans are this Memorial Day weekend, there is always time for a drink or two to keep you refreshed as you kick off another great summer. Whether you are headed to the beach for some sun and surf, packing up the grill for some good old BBQ, or pulling out the tent for a taste of the wilderness, having a vibrant drink selection will certainly keep the weekend going strong.  Relax with one of these Memorial Day drink specials to make this start to summer one worth remembering.

Sangrìa Verde

Vinho Verde is one of those wines that the entire world should be drinking, but no one knows about. Often between 9% and 12% abv, featuring a touch of bubbles, and an incredibly bright profile, why not make a cocktail with it? At just 8 to 12 bucks a bottle, you will be able to keep the drinks coming all weekend long.

This Sangrìa Verde is ridiculously refreshing, the notes of mint, basil, and cucumber adding a wonderful gimlet – mojito hybrid profile to the freshness of the wine. Find the recipe here. We recommend the 2017 Quinta de Aveleda Vinho Verde as a perfectly clean bottle for your festivities.

California Rosé Punch

In the last 20 years, rosé has changed more than any other style of wine. It went from a classically basic White Zinfandel sugar bomb to a nuanced, fruity, and floral wine utilizing virtually every type of red grape in existence. The expressive nature of rosé, coupled with its lighter profile makes it an ideal style of wine with which to craft cocktails.

With its rich berry flavor and mouthwatering acid-base, a punch with blackberries and lemonade is the perfect accompaniment to many rosés. Starting with sparkling rosé will add a refreshing spritz to the drink, perfect for laying out on the beach.

One of the hardest parts about planning for big weekend events is knowing the number of guests. This makes punch bowl drinks perfect for these types of weekends, as the party can be as large as you want it to be. Find the recipe here.

Sauv Blanc and Strawberry Cocktail

Sauvignon Blanc is a fantastic warm weather wine, and for those with a bit of a sweet tooth this will be a great take on a classic summer sipper.  A more fruit forward style of Sauv Blanc will treat you better with this recipe, so we recommend going with something from New Zealand or California.

  • 3 oz Sauvignon Blanc
  • 1 oz Vodka
  • 1 Tbsp Agave Nectar
  • 3 Strawberries (Stems Removed)
  • ½ of a lemon, juiced
  • 2 oz soda water
  • Mint to Garnish

Simply muddle the agave, lemon juice, and strawberries together in the bottom of a glass, and top it off with the Sauvignon Blanc, vodka, and soda water. Mix them together before garnishing the rim with another strawberry and a sprig of mint.

If you have the grill cooking this weekend, some fresh fish tacos will go incredibly well with this vibrant mixer. To guarantee a crisp wine option, go for the 2017 Oyster Bay Sauvignon Blanc. It has has a richly vibrant, tropical profile which brings wonderful life to the drink.

Julep Royale

While Prosecco is incredibly refreshing on its own, its vibrant profile and natural effervescence make it a great option as a mixer for cocktails. Prosecco is much more fruity when compared to its other sparkling counterparts. This is because Prosecco is made from the Glera grape, which displays more stone and tropical fruit notes compared to many of the other varietals used to make sparkling wine.

  • 1 oz Vodka
  • 2 oz Prosecco
  • ½ lemon, juiced
  • ½ oz Crème de Menthe
  • Crushed Ice
  • Raspberry Syrup to Top
  • Fresh Raspberry
  • Fresh Mint

Start by mixing the lemon juice, vodka, and Crème de Menthe together at the base of a pint glass. Top with a scoop of crushed ice and follow that with the Prosecco. For a great display, round out the top of the glass with more crushed ice, pour the raspberry syrup over the ice and decorate with fresh mint and raspberry. The Julep Royale is among the most refreshing drinks around to cool you off on the perfect start to summer.

For every occasion, there is the perfect beverage. This is why we hope that you enjoy these unique Memorial Day drinks. Wine is something which is meant to be enjoyed with everyone, and these holiday specialties are the perfect way to share your favorite drinks with those you care about the most.
