Mom’s Favorite Mimosa
There are few things better for Mother’s Day brunch than the perfect mimosa. A well made mimosa will be both refreshing and flavorful with a beautiful citrus punch. Our recipe is a slight twist on the classic OJ and bubbles, and the results speak for themselves.
- 5 Oranges
- 1 Bottle of Cava
- Grand Marnier
To begin, juice 4 oranges and strain out the pulp. This should leave you with about 8 ounces of fresh orange juice. Divide the juice into 2 glasses and top each with 1 oz of Grand Marnier. Stir those together before adding 3 oz of Cava to each glass and garnish with slices from the remaining orange.
When it comes to choosing your sparkling wine for mimosas, a dry option is a good option, and it doesn’t need to break the bank. Going for something in the $12 – $24 will keep both your palate and your wallet happy. We recommend Cava over Prosecco as it is made in a style where there is more effervescence. Those extra bubbles go a long way when cutting through the orange juice.
Bellini’s are the ultimate summer refresher and the perfect drink for mom if she has a little bit of a sweet tooth. It is sometimes difficult to get fresh peaches early in the season, but if you are able to find some Springcrest or Junegolds which ripen early, fresh peaches are always preferable to a premade peach puree.
- 5 Peaches
- 1 Bottle of Prosecco
Begin by making a simple syrup by mixing ½ cup of water with ½ cup of sugar and heating it in a saucepan on medium, stirring occasionally until the sugar dissolves. Place that in a refrigerator to the side. Then, peel and slice the peaches and blend 4 of them until you have a consistent texture. Strain and refrigerate. Wait about 20 minutes, then mix 1 part simple syrup with 2 parts peach puree. Put 1 ½ oz of puree in each glass, top with 4 oz of Prosecco, mix and garnish with the remaining peach.
Bellini’s are a great option for pairing with brunch or relaxing away a sunny afternoon. As with the mimosa, an expensive bottle of wine will be wasted on a bellini. The peach puree is flavorful enough that most nuances of a great bottle of bubbles will be lost. Unlike the mimosa, Prosecco is a much better choice than Cava due to its natural fruitiness. Cava will often have a sharpness to its minerality, while Prosecco being more fruit forward plays better with the sweetness of peaches.
Sparkling wine makes every occasion special, and if you pull out a fresh bottle of bubbles for mom on her day, she will know that you appreciate everything that she has done for you. The De Chancenay Crémant de Loire is an incredible bottle of sparkling wine. It is made with 100% Cabernet Franc utilizing the same techniques used to put the sparkle in Champagne.
If you are looking to start Mother’s Day with this exceptional Crémant, keep the pairing on the lighter side. Even though Cabernet Franc is a bigger, bolder varietal, this particular bottle is bright, crisp, and can easily be overwhelmed by heavier dishes. For brunch, it would be wise to stick to veggies, bagels and lox, melon, and fresh berries if you are pairing with this particular wine.
Sparkling White Sangria
There is just something about using the bounty of spring for some of the most refreshing cocktails of the season. This year, make something for mom that she has never tried before and dive into this beautiful sparkling white Sangria. It is perfectly crisp with a beautiful array of fresh fruit that is sure to make this Mother’s Day pop.
- 1 bottle of dry white wine (Vinho Verde is a great option. $8-$12)
- 1 bottle of Prosecco ($12-22)
- 2 peaches, sliced with skin removed
- 2 kiwis, sliced with skin removed
- 1 handful of raspberries (10 or so)
- 2-5 tablespoons of sugar (depending on how sweet mom likes it of course)
- Fresh Mint
The preparation for this sangria is a breeze. In a pitcher, whisk together your white wine, peaches, kiwis, raspberries, and sugar until the sugar has completely dissolved. Let it chill for about an hour and serve over ice. Top with Prosecco and use a sprig of mint to garnish.
Each of these lovely beverages makes for a beautiful accompaniment for the perfect Mother’s Day brunch. It shows that you put in the effort this year to make her special day that much more extraordinary. Cheers to all of the wonderful mothers out there and to making this Mother’s Day the most refreshing, delicious one yet.
